Course Information

A Master of Laws (LLM) is a postgraduate degree designed to enhance academic legal knowledge, particularly focusing on specific area of interest - corporate governance.

The programme has been designed for both law and non-law graduates, who wish to gain a Master’s qualification in law, specifically on developing an in-depth knowledge of Corporate Governance in Practice. This programme will help in developing skillset to enhance understanding of how the mechanisms, relations and process of corporations’ impact, how they function and operate.

Learning Format

This course has been designed to discuss in detail the types of rules, policies and controls determining the actions and behaviour of a corporation. During the programme you will discover models of corporate governance, classification of systems and the impact of the global financial crisis. You will also examine the roles of particular individuals involved in business including the company secretary, the board of directors, as well as the relationship between the board and its shareholders, disclosure and accountability to provide you with insight into the mechanics of corporate operation.

This programme taught by experienced practitioners will focus on analyzing real-life examples to put your knowledge in the right context of corporate governance.

Apart from traditional modules, this programme offers a two-week long induction to the programme that discusses the Key Principles of the English Legal System. As much as this is a compulsory step for non-law students, it can serve as a refresher of fundamentals of law to all interested students especially ones who took a break from legal education.

In preparation to the concluding element of this programme, which is the dissertation, you will study a range of compulsory and further optional Research Methods Training sessions in your first terms.

This LLM Corporate Governance Grad:CG programme is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Governance Institute (CGI, formerly known as the Institute for Chartered Secretaries and Administrators or ICSA) and is mapped to the new Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme syllabus. This means that graduates are  eligible for GradCG membership.

 

Entry Requirements

In order to qualify for the programme, students should possess a UK bachelor’s degree in law at 2:2 or above or equivalent qualifications.
