Course Information

This Bar Practice Course (BPC), previously called the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), is the qualifying postgraduate course allowing graduates to prepare and practice as barristers in England and Wales.

This vocational training requires from students a passing grade, before continuing education to the final, practical stage of training-pupillage. Through this high-quality tutoring course, you are optimizing your chances to secure pupillage and prepare for life as a barrister. Programme has been designed and is delivered by qualified practitioners with unparalleled experiences in delivering advocacy.

This programme will create an ideal environment for developing the confidence, communication skills and leadership you will need to thrive at the Bar.

This programme can be taken in a full time mode taking 8-9 months, or a part-time mode taking 20 months. Cost differs depending on location.

Learning format

Through this programme you will gain up to 50 hours advocacy training, fully preparing you for the Bar. You will be test your skills in front of real barristers and judges at prestigious mooting competitions organised by our Advocacy Committee and also at mock trials in court.

You will receive a solid preparation for pupillage applications and beyond thanks to Future Pupil Programme, part of our award-winning Careers and Employability Service, available from the moment you accept your place.

As a student, you will receive exclusive access to our Synap learning and revision tool allowing you to monitor and review your progress through complete multiple-choice questions.

This programme offers two delivery modes, influencing its duration. Programme delivered full time takes 8-9 months, programme delivered part time takes 20 months.

There are 10 assessments in total with practice assessments held for every module spread across the course.

Applications for September 2022 are open. Applicants must attend the Selection Event listed below:

  • September 2022: Wednesday 17 August 2022

Don't forget - you must be a member of an Inn of Court before you start our BPC. The deadline for applying is at least 12 weeks before you start the course.
